[ Another snort. ]

Wish it was.

[ K-2 pauses, then completely abandons the monitors and goes to crouch by Cassian's blanket pile. He tilts his head, as if considering his words, then speaks. ]

If I were a stubborn organic child who refused to sleep, and it was your duty to ensure I was well rested, what would you tell me?

[ouzel]

Kay that's an awful question.

[ Cassian's expression turns sour, briefly. The idea of being a parent is laughable, and he was a child who couldn't sleep, once, and now he just misses his parents and misses the what-ifs of a stable, happy, life and shit.

Shit. ]

I don't know.

[ktwo]

[ K-2 curls his fingers, and flexes them. He's at a loss. ]

You're terrible at this.

[ouzel]

You'll have to forgive me, I've never been a parent and it's been almost twenty years since I was a child.

[ If he sounds bitter it's because he is. ]

[ktwo]

[ Knowing what he does of Cassian's background, K-2 knows better than to ask the followup question, "what did your parents say to you then?"

He considers his options. He could always monitor the storm's progress remotely. ]

Would it be easier if I were to... cuddle you?

[ouzel]

[ Cassian gives a soft snort, but no other reply for a moment. He's thinking about it.

Finally: ] Wrapped in a blanket, maybe.

[ktwo]

Very well.

[ Yes, some padding would probably be preferable. He grabs the topmost blanket from Cassian's nest and tugs it out from under him, moving to sit alongside the wall, draping the blanket over himself. ]

[ouzel]

[ The blanket nest that is Cassian Andor shuffles in Kay's direction, tucking the blanket in around his torso and then just...curling up against it.

He feels like a teenager again, which is weird. Everything is weird, he decides. His life is weird.]

[ Life is very weird. K-2SO is snuggling with his commanding officer slash friend, in a Rebel hideout, as they wait for a storm to pass.

K-2 doesn't acknowledge the thanks, merely wrapping his long metal arms around Cassian's shoulders. ]

[ouzel]

[ Miracle upon miracles, Cassian does fall asleep eventually, breathing evening out.

He sleeps about forty minutes, this time, before another nightmare has him jolting awake.

Can't win for losing. ]

[ktwo]

[ By the time Cassian awakes, K-2 has shifted so that only one arm is wrapped around Cassian, the other arm extended at an awkward angle to jack into the data port and monitor the storm's progress.

He doesn't notice at first that Cassian is awake. ]

[ouzel]

How are we doing? [ His voice is muffled and groggy, and he will probably drift to sleep again in a moment, but he wants to know.

Also he is forever thankful for the arm around him. ]

[ktwo]

[ Kay tilts his head down towards Cassian and says in what he tries to make but probably fails at making a hushed, spring tone, ] The storm has shifted to the west. We should be able to leave by morning.

[ouzel]

That's good. [ Stifling a yawn. ] Do you need to move?

[ktwo]

I have no sense of physical discomfort. And I can reach the data port from this position.

[ So that's a no. ]

[ouzel]

You're a good friend. [ Cassian shifts so he's even further down in the blankets. ] Better than I deserve.

[ktwo]

I am.

[ No comment as to what Cassian does or doesn't deserve. K-2SO thinks Cassian deserves a lot of things, not least of which is a real night's sleep in an actual bed, but it might be some time until he can have that. ]
